Monthly Wrap Up

May Wrap UP

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I actually ended up reading this month because I didn’t pick up a book until May 16th and quite frankly I was rather scared that I was about to begin a reading slump! But I managed to go ahead and make it through 5 books this month!

My first read this month was The Trials of Apollo: The Burning Maze by Rick Riordan which is linked in case you want a full review. I was hesitant to start this one because I wasn’t exactly a fan of the previous book in the series, but I was surprised to find that I loved this one very much. There was so much character development between Apollo and Meg and the story flowed so well! It was a very enjoyable read and I gave it 4.5 stars! 🙂may wrap up

My second read this month wasn’t as enjoyable and it was Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan and I actually kind of hated it truth be told. I tend to be a character driven reader and unfortunately none of these characters had any real depth. And while some books are often saved by the plot, such wasn’t the case for this one. I ended up giving this a 1 star rating and even then, that seems like a bit of a gift.

Next up was The Perfect Mother by Aimee Molloy which was my months pick for Book of the Month! The book follows a Mommy group where all the children were born around the same time. And so one night these moms decide to take the night off and go out drinking only for one of the children to end up missing by the end of the night. From then on we follow about 4 different perspectives detailing everything that came after. This was sooooo good! I don’t want to say too much about it because I plan on doing a full review on here, but wow! This had several characters whose voice was rather unreliable and I loved it. I didn’t know who to trust, I didn’t know what to think! And that ending??? Blown away! I wasn’t expecting it at all. I really loved this and I gave it a 5 star rating!

The next book was actually an audiobook and it was Bossypants by Tina Fey. I won’t say much about this one as well, but not because I loved it. Quite the opposite. I don’t really have any feelings towards this one because it was a very bland book. I thought that listening to the audiobook would help enhance the experience, but it didn’t. It just wasn’t a good book in my opinion. I did give it 2 stars though because it had some good parts. I guess. I don’t know. I wouldn’t recommend it that’s for sure though.

And my last book was a reread that Goodreads just isn’t putting on my reading challenge. That book is Fairest by Marissa Meyer and also one that I want to write a review for later this month. I really enjoyed this story so much more the second time around and I love a good villain and Levana? She’s scary as hell. Has no perception of what’s good or bad and seems to think everything she does is in the right. But, that makes for a wonderful villain. I decided to reread the Lunar Chronicles and in doing so decided to begin it with this in hopes that it’ll lead to catching things in the series that I didn’t the first time. I ended up giving this 5 stars, which for some reason 2015 me had deemed a 4 star read.

So that’s all I read this month! I’d say it was a rather successful one and am really excited for this months reading because I’m going to have a lot of free time 😀

What did you guys read this month? 🙂

    1. I was actually disappointed with the June selections! I usually see the choices for the month and end up choosing at least two, but not this time. I’m actually going to choose to skip this time 😦

      2. I can assure you you weren’t being picky! They’ve had such good choices in the previous months, but for whatever reason the choices this month just don’t spark any interest! I too was waiting anxiously this month to make my choice so I’m rather disappointed myself 😦 Hopefully next month is better! 😀
